Who
we are
The Youth Connection Association is a non-profit organization
that offers a wide range of services to young people and their
families. These services include counseling related to drug
and alcohol abuse, as well as a variety of other issues including
interactions with law enforcement agencies.
The director of the Association Mr.Kenny Gbadebo, and members
of the staff liaise regularly with parents, teachers, principals
and community leaders and organizations, in order to provide
support systems for young people and their families, in need
of direction, guidance, assistance and advocacy in these areas.
Tutoring
Services
The association offers tutoring
services to children ranging from grades 1 through grade 11
in terms of their academic placements. The tutoring services
are provided on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m.
- 6:45 p.m., assistance is also provided in ESL ( English as
a Second Language) and remedial assistance for designated students.
The development and delivery
of the academic program is done by certified teachers and assistance
in completion of assignments is also provided by a group of
effective and enthusiastic volunteers.
History
The Y.C.A was established in
1994 to serve the young people of Windsor and Essex County by
promoting healthy lifestyles and working for the prevention
of alcohol and substance abuse among youth who are disadvantaged
and at risk, including those from visible minorities.
In 1995, the results of a Needs
Survey developed and directed by Mr. Kenny Gbadebo and funded
through the secretary of state for Multiculturalism and the
Status of Women were formalized by Applied Data Solutions. Community
members were asked to participate in a study addressing community
needs and perceptions, particularly in the area of drug , alcohol
abuse, prevention and health promotion program availability
and accessibility. Since that time, the needs of the youth population
of the community and the services provided by The Youth Connection
Association have increased significantly. Currently The Y.C.A
is expanding its services even further to meet the needs of
at risk youth and their families.
