It is our belief, based upon solid research
and a range of experiences, that the problems of youth today,
has a direct correlation to other factors, particularly lack
of effective support systems for at risk young people and
their families. We provide individual and group counseling
for young people and their families. As well, we offer a series
of modules or workshops, including a recently developed program
on Communication Skills, Confidence Building , Anger Management
and Conflict Resolution. These programs are an effort
to lower the desire to be involved in inappropriate, harmful,
negative or unlawful activities by the youth with whom we
work.
Our
workshops and Public Education include:
The aim of the Public Education is to provide
tools and strategies for better coping skills and to build
the young people's sense of personal responsibility.
The goals of these programs are to increase
the protective factors for high risk students in order to
prevent , the use of alcohol , tobacco and other drugs and
the problem associated with such use,and to reinforce positive
qualities that are typical of youth at this age; it works
to strengthen five specific qualities that are vital to achieving
preventive effects.
Computer Supporting
Communities
The Youth Connection
Association Inc. works in partnership with Computer Supporting
Communities
C.S.C
is a not-for-profit volunteer organization committed to
refurbishing computer systems donated by community groups
and businesses. These systems are then freely distributed
to other Not-For-Profit Agencies and educational groups within
the Windsor/Essex County Area.
C.S.C is comprised of
a group of volunteers from local businesses, industries and
government, who are dedicated to providing opportunities for
computer literacy through providing computers to those in
need. C.S.C is currently involved in monitoring youth
who have withdrawn from the formal education system . Though
positive role modeling and encouragement, these youth are
encouraged to pursue their education toward attaining their
secondary school diplomas.
